if i hadn't made it clear in my previous posts, i really liked indonesia. i found the locals to be super sweet and friendly, from the kids who'd greet you with "hello, what's your name?" to the older folk who didn't have any english, yet were eager to converse and get to know you. this shot was taken in jodipan, a village within the city of malang, and is another example of indonesia being great. it used to be an impoverished slum which was bound for demolition before 10 years ago a group of local students came up with an idea, to paint the entire village in rainbow colours. the result was a huge success, not only did the residents get to keep their homes, but the whole area has now been transformed into a prosperous tourist destination.

it was considered such a triumph that two years later the area on the other side of the bridge, now called kampung biru arema, also received a makeover - this time only with the colour blue. here's a shot of from the blue half
